China Rejects U.S. Request to Cut Iranian Oil Imports

The U.S. has been unable to persuade China to cut Iranian oil imports according to 2 officials familiar with the negotiations

Iranian authorities have barely mentioned days of demonstrations in the major cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad and Tehran, driven by concerns over the economy as well as wider anger at the political system.

As part of the withdrawal, the USA will on Monday begin to sanction Iranian transactions with US dollar banknotes; trade in gold and precious metals; direct or indirect sales of graphite, raw or semi-finished metals; and Iran's automotive sector.

Iran has started naval exercises in the Gulf amid heightened tensions with Washington, US officials have revealed.

"We are already seeing vehicle prices going through the roof over fears about raw material imports", she told AFP.
