Pogba shone for France in the World Cup as the 25-year-old re-established himself as one of the world's best midfielders after a frustrating season for United.

Mino Raiola has been in detailed discussions with the Spanish club over signing the midfielder, two years after he rejoined United from Juventus for £89million.

United are aware that it could be a ploy by Pogba's representative to secure him a new contract on the same terms as £500,000-a-week top earner Alexis Sanchez.

Pogba made 37 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United last season.

Pogba has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this whole season and has publicly stated his admiration for the La Liga champions Barcelona.

Pogba has yet to return to pre-season after his World Cup exploits in Russian Federation, despite the fact United kick off their Premier League season on Friday.

However, further investment is needed this summer to ensure that they can sustain their place in the Premier League. Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez said the club had followed Muto for some time, praising his energy and work rate.

It's not a great time to be a Manchester United fan as manager Jose Mourinho has been causing some kind of irritation and uneasiness at the club.

Instead of praising Pogba's performances, Mourinho urged him to "understand" why he had done so well in Russian Federation and appeared to suggest the player lacked the same focus for his club.

World Cup-winning Pogba is back at Carrington after he was allowed an extended break following the tournament in Russian Federation. With that out of the way he's coming good though we all know he can do even better.

"Why? Because it's closed for a month, where he can only think about football".

Italian newspaper, TuttoSport reports that Juventus are ready to beat Barcelona for Pogba's signature by including Pjanic.

Raiola's ask for bigger wages was followed by claims from Pep Guardiola that Manchester City had been offered the chance by the 50-year-old to sign Pogba in the January transfer window. "It's about him giving the best he has to give".
