The Surface Go is a decent little device, but it's more suited to competing with the likes of Apple's iPad than it is with the Surface Pro.

The original Surface Pro design, which has been around since 2014, is still here. The laptop-tablet hybrid is extremely light, weighing in at only 1.15 pounds.

If you're a fan on Microsoft's Surface lineup of devices, but thought they were a tad too expensive for your needs, Microsoft has launched the Surface Go, its smallest and most affordable Surface device yet. Just like the iPad counterpart, the Surface Go supports Microsoft's Surface Pen out of the box and features like precise writing and low latency are also supported.

Powered by the 7th Generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y, in a fanless design, offering up to 9 hours of battery.

Depending on the type of customer you are (consumer, business, school), you can get it with Windows 10 Home or Pro, or the S-flavored education-focused version of Windows, which runs only verified apps from the Microsoft Store within Windows. Although smartly marketed as a productivity device ideal for students or people on-the-go, the new Surface Go will also be able to handle some light gaming thanks to the inclusion of Intel HD Graphics 615. Given that the Surface Go is meant to be carried around as the name suggests, a strong battery life is a must have. Meet the Surface Go, a $399 Surface device that's cheaper, less powerful, but far more compact than its bigger siblings. In this head to head, we pitted the Surface Go versus the Surface Pro to find out where the best value for money lies.

The Microsoft Surface Go has a 10.0-inch IPS LCD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. An LTE cellular data version will be released later this year, the company said. For the version with four gigabytes of RAM and storage on the 64 GB will have to pay $399, and a configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD was priced at $549. The hinge on the cover extends up to 165 degrees in case you wish to have a larger angle for some studio work or while placing video calls using the Windows Hello camera which also allows you to unlock the Surface Go using your face.

Available for pre-order starting today - although the listing isn't now live on the Microsoft Store at time of writing - the Surface Go will be available for purchase from 2 August. We now know that to be the Surface Go and it'll land on 2 August 2018. The accessory supports five-point multi-finger gestures and can connect to the Surface mouse.
