Fortnite celebrates its birthday with a big patch update – and cake

Fortnite's birthday cake event is set to celebrate the game's first birthday.

v5.10 drops tomorrow on Fortnite's first birthday, which is bringing a bevy of festivities to the game. This was problematic for many players who complained on Twitter and Reddit, prompting Epic to tweak the mode.

Update: Epic has said you're going to have to wait until the store refreshes until the Challenges unlock for some players.

Those additions will definitely help Fortnite players get in the birthday spirit.

Epic Games has plenty in store for Fortnite over the coming weeks including some changes to Slurp Juice, the return of the limited time Playground mode, and finally giving Founders some skins for Battle Royale.

As Epic teased yesterday, the new Playground update adds additional team options, namely the ability to switch teams while in a game. The Battle Bus has now been adorned to celebrate the day, as well as the map featuring birthday cake that will contribute towards special challenges and also grant +5 health and shields when consumed.

For example, dealing 1000 damage will unlock a "Birthday!" emote while playing 14 matches nets you 5,000 XP. Earn tickets to spend on Birthday Llamas, which can contain Heroes and weapons from every event this year (not including quest rewards).

We can't deny that Fortnite has taken over. The birthday event, then, is really just a bit more icing on the cake. It also introduces a new legendary weapon, the Compact SMG, to Battle Royal mode.
