The total lunar eclipse is expected to last one hour and 43 minutes, just four minutes short of what NASA says is the maximum possible length.

Lunar eclipses occur when Earth's shadow blocks the sun's light, which otherwise reflects off the moon.

Dr Paige Godfrey, an astronomer at robotic telescope service Slooh, said: "This is the first total lunar eclipse since the supermoon trilogy that concluded in January 2018 with a lunar eclipse".

You don't need any kind of special equipment in order to see the Blood Moon 2018 on July 27 as it will be visible from the naked eye. The U.S. and other North American countries will unfortunately be missing out. Places like eastern Africa and parts of the Middle East will see a full lunar eclipse. Eastern time, and the total eclipse will last from 3:30 to 5:13 p.m.

This rare celestial event will be visible across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. The total duration of the various stages of eclipse will be 6 hours, 14 minutes in the Kingdom.

When the full moon moves into Earth's shadow, it will darken, but it won't disappear.

According to CNN, the moon will be in flawless alignment with the Sun and Earth, with the moon in the middle of the Earth and the Sun.

If you want to see what the eclipse will look like in your area, you can plug your location into NASA's Lunar Eclipse Explorer.

Although it won't look almost as large as the blood moon, Mars will be its largest in size if you're looking through a telescope and close to its maximum brightness in our sky.
