Jubilant England fans now expected to rush to Russian Federation

England break World Cup record as Harry Kane joins elite group of legends

England produced a historic display against Panama

Captain Harry Kane grabbed a hat-trick as England scored six goals in a World Cup finals game for the first time in their history.

England recorded their biggest ever World Cup finals win by thrashing an ill-disciplined Panama 6-1 on Sunday to breeze through to the knockout stage after two games.

England's second game of this year's World Cup got off to the best imaginable start this afternoon; John Stones heading England in front after only a matter of minutes. Harry Kane with five goals to his credit is now the sole front-runner for the golden boot, ahead of Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Belgium's Romelu Lukaku who stand at four goals each to their credit.

So if you had two incredibly cynical managers in charge of England and Belgium, both teams could play for a goalless draw and try to get their entire team, plus substitutes if required, booked, in an attempt to swerve the favourites.

Two of Kane's goals came from the penalty spot and the third via his heel.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Robson said: "When I first saw Jesse Lingard I thought he would never make it at Manchester United".

Optus Sport team up with SBS for all remaining group matches
Fabianksi is the back-up to Wojciech Szczesny for Poland at the World Cup and didn't play in the team's first group game, a 2-1 loss to Senegal.

"It's a good day out, it's all England fans have wanted from a World Cup, five goals at half-time and showing some heart", said James Barrie, 25, who works in the City. "Top bins" as they say.

At least Balague saw the amusing side, who tweeted in reply to Neville just before half-time that England were clearly good against Panama.

The academy product had fans anxious for a moment when he took an elbow to the face early on in the match but he made it clear that it didn't affect him at all.

"If it's going to be 10-0 and Raheem Sterling doesn't score, then he's got selection issues", said Barrie.

And while they posses prodigious talent in their ranks, Martinez's men struggled to break down a resilient Panama for 50 minutes in their opening group match, as it required a Dries Mertens' masterclass to open proceedings early in the second-half.

Southgate intends to freshen up his side on Thursday, when leadership of Group G will be determined, but will seek to maintain "squad harmony" when it comes to selection for the game in Kaliningrad.
