Along with a bottle of milk, as is tradition for the 102-year-old race.

Power was struggling to accept that he was an Indy 500 victor at age 37.

Splashing the princess was the only wrong move Power made all day during an event that saw many top drivers make costly mistakes. Her auto spun wildly, crashed into a pair of walls, and was soon being hauled off the track.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Takuma Sato lasted just 46 laps in defense of his 2017 Indy 500 victory, plowing into the back of a laboring James Davison in Turn 3. Kanaan's crash with 12 laps remaining set up a final restart with Oriol Servia out front.

The Verizon IndyCar Series returns to action with the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, the only doubleheader race weekend on the schedule. He managed his fuel strategy perfectly as Oriol Servia and Jack Harvey had to pit in the closing laps, and then made all the right moves to hold off pole victor Ed Carpenter to win his first Indy 500.

"I was hoping to win", Rossi said. If I win, people will remember that.

"My career, I've had so many wins, so many poles but everyone always talks about the 500 and I just couldn't imagine winning a race in front of a crowd like this".

"When he first came here after unification [between IRL and Champ Car] he hated ovals, and now he loves 'em".

"I just can't believe it", he said after the race. "I can't describe it", Power said.

He also added that North Korea remained open to resolving issues with Washington "regardless of ways, at any time, any format". Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was deposed and killed by NATO-backed militants after halting his nascent nuclear program.

New Zealand's Scott Dixon, winner in 2008, was third, 2016 winner Alexander Rossi fourth and 2014 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay fifth.

Because, just like at Phoenix last month, nobody passed any more cars and nobody did it with any more panache.

Castroneves' bid to win a record-tying fourth 500 ended when he spun exiting Turn 4. "He will be here next year in one of our cars".

"It's hard to say no to him, isn't it?" said Penske, who already had promised Castroneves a ride for 2019 if he won Sunday.

She announced last November she would retire this year and bring the curtain down with the "Danica Double" by contesting the Daytona and Indy 500s. It's both of them. It still was a lot of great moments this month.

As she moves away from racing, Patrick has her Warrior clothing line, Somnium wine and her latest book Pretty Intense - a nutrition and fitness guide -to fill her time previously spent racing.

She qualified as 7th fastest out of 35 drivers vying for a spot in the legendary race, but unfortunately Patrick's racing career end with a crash, not a victory.

Honda didn't win the race but did manage to put six of its cars in the top 10. Power led for 59 of the 200 laps while stomping out his main racing demon.
