Man United set to sign unknown Porto defender

17m release clause triggered Man Utd to announce first summer signing this week

Diogo Dalot will join Manchester United this week

Manchester United and Chelsea will fight it out to sign Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, according to reports in Sport.

Dalot, 19, has a release clause of £17.4m but United are not thought to have activated it yet.

The 19-year-old broke into Porto's first-team last season and has only made a handful of appearances for the Portuguese champions. His move out of Porto was imminent as Dalot had just a year remaining on his contract. It is understood that they watched him play for the Portuguese club in the goalless draw against Liverpool in the Champions League last season. Today, Man Utd are set to sign Diogo Dalot...

An announcement is due within the next few days as manager Jose Mourinho steps up his efforts to strengthen United's defence this summer as he attempts to close the gap with Manchester City after a trophyless campaign.

The two goals also marked the first time Vegas had allowed a goal in the first period at home during the 2018 playoffs. "Oh, man. Nosek and Pierre- Edouard Bellemare were a plus-3. "Really happy for them - and really proud of this team we have in Vegas".

Dalot has represented Portugal from under-15 to under-21 level and made his Porto debut in October.

Mourinho is said to be keen to bring the teenage defender to challenge Antonio Valencia, who is now first-choice at right-back.

Matteo Darmian, who has been a reserve for Mourinho in both full-back slots, is expected to leave, so Dalot is seen as a replacement for the Italian and as a challenger for Valencia's first-team berth. Mourinho is said to be in the market for a left-back and another central midfielder.

And according to Goal, United are hopeful of landing Porto right-back Dalot before the end of the week.
