Golden State Warriors: Game 6 vs. Houston is the biggest game of Kevin Durant’s career

Golden State Warriors guard Nick Young (6) celebrates in front of Houston Rockets guard James Harden (13) during game six.

Then he paused, and thought about it.

"I think Klay doesn't worry too much about repercussions", Kerr said.

The Rockets had a tough hill to climb in this game, needing a win on the road without Chris Paul, who suffered a hamstring injury in the closing moments of Game 5. Oh my God, we let (Trevor) Ariza get wide open.

"Obviously we want to have him", Rockets forward PJ Tucker said.

The focus will now shift to Chris Paul and the status of his hamstring sprain for Game 7. "I think he just loves to play", coach Steve Kerr said.

By getting Golden State to the NBA Finals, and helping them win back-to-back games for the first time in this series against a gifted Rockets' team, those doubts can be erased. But when you have a Warriors' team that dominates the third quarter plus a Houston Rockets that reacts in frustration and loses control to allow a butt-whooping, you get angry and mad.

Though the teams are tied 3-3 through six games of these Western Conference Finals, Houston generally has been the grittier team, the desire and even desperation visible on the faces of its players.

An terrible start was followed by three quarters of utter dominance, spot-on shot-making and handsome defense - even against one of the game's greatest and hardest to stop in Houston's James Harden.

Game 7 will be on Monday (Tuesday in Manila) in Houston, and Thompson said the Warriors will be ready. Trailing 3-2 in the 2016 Western Conference finals, Thompson erupted for 41 points, including a playoff-record 11 3-pointers, nearly single-handedly saving the Warriors' season, perhaps even their dynasty.

Winning is such a great feeling, isn't it a great feeling? "We're building that modern fleet", he said. The president said he would stay to shake the hands of all roughly 1,100 graduates Friday.

It was a valiant effort for a Rockets squad who, without their other All-Star point guard, was expected to simply hand over this game in preparation for Game 7. "The guy's a machine".

"I thought Klay was incredible tonight, not just for 35 points and the nine threes, but his defense", Kerr said. He seems to thrive in these situations.

Another game in which Thompson caught fire, perhaps the most memorable game of his career thus far, was during another Game 6 - two years ago against the Oklahoma City Thunder, coincidentally the last series in which the Warriors faced elimination before this one.

For Thompson, the only thing that matters is those 48 minutes in front of him, and how he plays in them.

Durant had no interest in recollecting, smiling and laughing with Curry as he said, "next question".

OK, it's not technically a number, but just look at it.

The 2018 Western Conference Finals are going to a seventh game.

"But he's confident in himself and what he can do out on the floor at both ends".

That's what happened Saturday night.
