A regular day at the mall turned into chaos after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed after a dispute at Opry Mills Mall Thursday afternoon.
The number of people shot was reported as four by WSMV-TV; according to the television station, multiple 911 calls flooded into police reporting a shooting. A suspect is in custody. It's not believed anyone who was with the victim or suspect was involved in the shooting.
That person is in critical condition, according to the Nashville Fire Department.
Sarr said he and two friends from Northwest Indiana had just exited the Lucky brand store and starting walking towards the direction of the shooting.
Police said the suspected shooter is in custody. Metro Police responded to reports of a shooting at the mall 2 p.m.
Moderate Risk for Severe Weather on Wednesday
Thunderstorms and the threat of severe weather are set to return for some parts of the ArkLaTex over the next couple of days. The record "tornado drought" across the Southern Plains is over, and more tornadoes are likely Wednesday and Thursday .
Some locations in the area have also been placed on lockdown in response to the shooting, such as Gaylord Opryland Hotel, with people now being prohibited from entering or leaving.
Meanwhile, people approached the mall concerned for loved ones there. It is unknown if they are looking for other suspects.
Squad cards were parked at all the mall entrances and most of the responding officers appeared to be inside the building.
The mall is adjacent to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
"We were inside the mall, not too far from where it happened", Sarr said. "'Mall being swept by MNPD officers as a precaution". One was critically wounded and transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. Dozens of people were lingering near the entrances, where security was posted, and in the parking lot.
