Electric BMW iX3 to be Imported From China

Say hello to the iX3, BMW's 'first' electric car

BMW iX3 concept unveiled at Beijing Motor Show

It represents the next step in BMW's electric-car strategy, which sees BMW complementing today's i3 and i8 with a range of fully electric versions of its core models. An enlarged kidney grille, that's filled in to improve aero efficiency, dominates the front fascia which has smaller air inlets and smoother surfacing, too, compared to the mainstream BMW X3.

BMW say the iX3 gets a battery pack "more than" 70kWh to power the 266bhp electric motor, although it would seem likely that any production model could get an additional rear axle electric motor to add to that and deliver 4WD and impressive performance.

Also, the batteries are much more potent this time around. The company says: "This study of a first all-electric model from BMW is clearly defined by the robust and sophisticated all-round character of an SAV, which remains unaffected by the presence of a locally emission-free drive system".

With the world premiere of the BMW Concept iX3, the BMW Group is opening a new chapter in its electrification strategy.

5 takeaways from Wolves-Rockets Game 3
The Timberwolves are all but dead if they fall behind 3-1 in the series so this is basically a must-win game for them. Meanwhile, the returning Ryan Anderson , who's missed the last three months with an ankle issue, was a minus-12.

The body of the vehicle is generally similar to the internal combustion X3, save for key design tweaks to show off its green credentials.

Aesthetically, the iX3 is immediately recognisable as a BMW X model. The trademark blue accents of BMW's "i" range are prominently featured. As for the electric motor, it does not require any rare earths. A new charging control unit allows the battery to be recharged in 30 minutes when hooked up to a station with 150 kW output.

The concept also has light-alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design and a Moonstone silver paint job that contrasts the bright blue detailing on the skirts.

In the front, the kidney and the brand emblem show the affiliation with the BMW i brand. That grille is subtly reshaped to give it a bit more of a distinctive flavour, with a strong touch of the styling of that i Vision Dynamics concept.
