At a press conference this afternoon, Radnor Police said that Jennair Gerardot, shot Meredith Chapman as soon as she walked into her home, Gerardot then turned the gun on herself.
Police say she was the victim of a murder-suicide carried out by Jennair Gerardot, 47, of Wilmington, Delaware, 47, of Wilmington, Delaware.
Gerardot's activity suggests that, prior to the murder, she exchanged several email and text messages with Mark and her victim, letting both of them know that she discovered their affair.
Chapman, 33, was recently named assistant vice president at Villanova University in suburban Philadelphia and had recently moved to a home in Radnor. Police also noted that it appears Jennair Gerardot brought a bag containing a wig and clothing with her. Jennair Gerardot didn't drive to Chapman's home and it wasn't immediately clear how she got there, police said. "You had a man that was married that was having an affair with this other woman. The wife knew about it, and this was a calculated, planned attack".
Although the clues found at the crime scene pointed towards being an instinct-driven incident, the homicide detectives pointed out that Mrs. Gerardot was well aware of what she's doing and spent a lot of time putting together the plan.
Jennair Gerardot's husband, Mark Gerardot, was in the driveway when officers arrived. "Most people who met Meredith were instantly dazzled by her".
Chapman ran for political office in 2016, challenging eight-term Democratic incumbent Dave Sokola for the 8th District Senate seat that encompasses the Pike Creek area. She was new to the Rosemont neighborhood. When she hadn't shown up, he became concerned and showed up at her house in Radnor, police said.
