Wizards in New Orleans to take on streaking Pelicans

Anthony Davis left Wednesday's game at Sacramento after suffering an ankle injury in the third quarter and it appears he could miss further time.

A victory would give the Pelicans, at least temporarily, the No. 3 seed spot in the Western Conference playoff race, depending on the outcome of 39-26 Portland's game at Golden State late Friday night. Despite 30 points and seven assists from Bradley Beal, Washington conceded a nine-point half-time lead and were forced to play an extra five minutes of game time.

The Pelicans announced that X-rays taken were negative.

Since the Pels lost their other All-Star big, DeMarcus Cousins, to a ruptured Achilles, Davis has taken his game to another level and inserted himself into the MVP conversation.

For Green, Davis' performance in the wake of DeMarcus Cousins' season-ending injury is MVP-worthy.

Yet with all respect to the fine 23-year-old player from the Ukraine, she was probably not the main attraction for the packed MSG. She is now healthy again, but skipped this year's Australian Open because she did not consider herself ready for the tournament.

Houston now owns the best record in the National Basketball Association at 51-13 and is on a league-high 17-game winning streak. The season Steph beat him, Steph was just off the charts. Anthony Davis is averaging 28.1 points and 11.1 rebounds while Jrue Holiday is averaging 19.4 points and 5.8 assists.

Both teams have had a player step their game up over their last five games. For most of the game, they were manhandled by New Orleans on both ends of the court.

More impressively, he's averaged 35.6 points, 13.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 3.1 blocks and 2.8 steals during the Pelicans' winning streak, including a 53-point outburst against the Phoenix Suns on February 26 that led to a Western Conference Player of the Week nod.

The second quarter did not get any better for the Kings as the Pelicans continued to stomp on the accelerator.

If Davis doesn't play, the Wizards' chances in this game will be exponentially higher, but even if he doesn't the Pelicans will still get over the line. Holiday has been playing like an All-Star for an extended period, and Mirotic has been very impressive coming off the bench for Alvin Gentry.
