Wenger won't quit and vows to turn Arsenal around

Wenger Out

GETTY Arsenal fans show their frustration with Arsene Wenger at Brighton

"It's not the easiest time for the club, but we are here to help, do our best, and put Arsenal on the level that it was before".

With the team seemingly going nowhere fast, Montella was replaced by former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso. But as they say, matches aren't decided on paper and Milan and Arsenal both have serious dispositions about the competition, even though pundits don't see them as clear favorites. This is a man who has spent decades modernising and transforming a club to stunning effect, but like a fading boxer who refuses to hang up his gloves, Wenger has gone on too long.

Having been outplayed in back to back 3-0 defeats by Manchester City, first in the League Cup final and then, four days later, in the league fixture at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners badly needed a lift ahead of Thursday's Europa League meeting with AC Milan.

Bellerin, 22, was a surprise exclusion from the starting lineup for the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, and this led to speculation over his long-term future with the club.

Now sixth in the Premier League and 13 points adrift of the top four, the Europa League represents their only remaining chance of success this season - and winning it would also provide Champions League football for next season.

Ultimately, the undeniable truth is that Wenger needs Arsenal more than they need him and that has been the case for quite some time now.

Meanwhile, Gattuso's appointment at Milan is certainly something Arsenal should take note of.

The Gunners are light in attack and vulnerable in defence, and I predict another away defeat against a Milan side that has strength in defence, energy in midfield and ingenuity in attack.

While AC Milan are seventh in the league table at the moment, the Rossoneri are going into the last 16 tie with momentum behind them due to their form under new coach Gennaro Gattuso. Considering that they face a tough Round of 16 second leg against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, it'll be a big ask for them to reach the quarter-finals let alone the tournament showpiece in May.
