Nun Suing Katy Perry Over Convent Sale Collapses, Dies In Court

Nun dies during court proceeding over property battle with LA Archdiocese, Katy Perry

Katy Perry Nun Involved in Singer's Lawsuit Drops Dead in Court

The years long real-estate legal battle between Katy Perry and a group of nuns took a tragic twist as one of the sisters involved in the case died in a Los Angeles court room on Friday.

Holzman was in court for a post-judgment hearing related to the lawsuit she filed against Perry when she suddenly collapsed.

Perry had offered to buy the eight-acre property and its Roman-villa-style buildings for $US14.5 million ($18.4 million), and to relocate an adjoining house of prayer used by priests. Holzman collapsed and died later in the courtroom, according to BuzzFeed.

The nuns instead sold the residence to local restaurant owner Dana Hollister, without the approval of their Archdiocese.

Following Holzman's death, Archbishop Gomez - known to be at odds with the sisters in their desperate bid to prevent the sale of the property to the enormously-successful pop singer - stated that he was "sad to hear the news of her passing", and added that he had "offered a mass for the repose of her soul".

"To Katy Perry, please stop", Holzman said.

Bihar bypolls: All you need to know about the poll-bound state
This is the first bypoll for Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar after it severed ties with the grand alliance a year ago . Reports of defective EVMs came from Bhabhua Assembly constituency , where voting was affected at 24 polling stations.

A judge ruled that the sale of the convent was invalid and Perry and the Catholic Church were awarded a total of nearly $10m (£7.2m) in damages in December previous year.

Confirming Sr Catherine's death, Archbishop of Los Angeles Jose Gomez said that the nun had "served the Catholic Church with dedication and love for many years". "It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people".

A picture of Sister Holzman is now featured on the site, beneath the message: "Rest with the angels our most precious treasure".

"I found her videos", Sister Rita Callanan told the Los Angeles Times. She had nothing to do with forcing herself on us. At the time, Hollister was already living in the huge property.

In 2015, CBS News reported that the singer who got her start in Christian music had even met with the sisters and sung them a gospel song.

Perry reportedly visited the nuns to win them over, and is said to have shown them her tattoo of Jesus and sung a hymn for them.
