Another photographer who took Bryant's picture at about the same time did not recognise him as a victor at the ceremony, and began following him, police said.

McDormand won the Oscar, her second, for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. If convicted, Bryant, 47, faces up to three years behind bars.

During his first court appearance on Wednesday, Bryant's own attorney said that it was all just a prank and that Bryant wanted nothing more than to schmooze with famous people. Rosario Herrera, a police spokeswoman, said that Bryant had a ticket for the event.

Authorities are on the case of what really happened to Frances McDormand's Oscar.

Before McDormand retook possession of her Oscar, Reuters photographer Mario Anzuoni saw an Academy official at the Governor's Ball hand the recovered statuette to best actor victor Gary Oldman to return to McDormand. The mugshots were taken by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office between 1999 and 2002 for charges that included theft, criminal mischief and assault.

Zolotukhin said anti-government fighters and their families are being allowed passage during certain hours in the daytime. The goal of the operation is clear Turkey's Syrian border from the terrorist threat.

In a video which is no longer available on Facebook, Terry can be seen clutching the award at the Governor's Ball and telling onlookers: "My team got this tonight".

He followed Bryant out of the party "and without any resistance from Bryant took the Oscar from him", the statement said. "They also celebrated their reunion with a double cheeseburger from In-N-Out", McDormand's representative told the press. When McDormand told a Los Angeles Times photographer she lost her Oscar, Bryant was nearby with it.

Kotagal said they have been discussing the concept in recent months with stars and talent agencies but did not know how McDormand had come to know of the concept. It turned out that the man, who stole the Oscar, Terry Bryant, even made a video of himself minutes before his arrest saying that Oscar belongs to him.

The police said in a statement: "The incident occurred as Bryant was exiting The Governors Ball".
