Authorities say a woman's body found in a shallow Northern California grave has been positively identified as an aspiring model and actress from Macedonia who vanished in Los Angeles last month.

Last week, Shabani's alleged boyfriend, Christopher Spotz, shot and killed himself after leading police on a stolen vehicle chase.

"Something happened, and I believe it to be somewhat untoward - that there was foul play involved", Capt. William Hayes of the Los Angeles Police Department told a press conference.

Shabani was last seen the afternoon of February 23 leaving her home near the 1700 block of Wilcox Avenue, between Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue, Hayes said.

The expansive search for Shabani led California police to a shallow grave in northern California on March 27.

Authorities have not indicated that Spotz is involved in Shabani's disappearance.

A search was launched and when police managed to locate Spotz driving east of Los Angeles, a high-speed chase ensued, ending with Spotz fatally shooting himself in the head.

The body, found in Dry Creek in the Spenceville Wildlife Area about 50 miles north of Sacramento, will not be officially identified until after a full autopsy has been done.

"We can not say that conclusively at this point in time because the condition of the remains prohibited positive identification".

The LAPD has stated that they believe the missing 25-year-old aspiring actress from Macedonia to be a murder victim after almost a month has gone by since her disappearance. The case has been deemed a homicide, but the cause of death will not be determined until toxicology and tissue analysis are completed, authorities said.

Shabani was reported missing February 23 and was last spotted on a security camera at around 1.15 pm as she left her Hollywood residence with her alleged boyfriend Chris Spotz.

The California Highway Patrol said the pursuit suspect was possibly tied to a homicide in Los Angeles County, but did not elaborate on the case. Shabani had been in Los Angeles for around two years.

But the story didn't add up, Hayes said.

Detectives issued a warrant for Spotz's truck.

Spotz and his auto were eventually found by police on March 22 in the area of the 10 and 15 freeway, but when authorities tried to stop him, he fled the scene leading to a police chase. The chase led him to Corona, Riverside County where he shot himself.
