Get the Best Raspberry Pi 3 Performance with the Model B+

Raspberry Pi Foundation

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ will certainly help the Foundation to sell a lot more units of its affordable computing boards.

A blog post reveals it is powered by a 1.4GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, and connectivity wise it offers dual-band 802.11ac wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.2, as well as faster Ethernet (Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0). It's not only faster, but also includes a heat spreader and power integrity optimizations allowing it to better control temperature while enjoying more performance. Further, the company will continue to sell its previous models, Raspberry Pi 1 B+, Raspberry Pi 2B, and Raspberry Pi 3B for $25, $35, and $35 respectively.

Gigabit Ethernet. The Model B+ supports gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet, though the required USB 2.0 connection limits the speed to about 315 Mbps max. The Foundation claims the Model B+ is capable of "roughly three times the wired and wireless network throughput" of its predecessor.

It's a tidy upgrade for the compact computer board, and one that will doubtless tempt Pi enthusiasts and tinkerers everywhere to reach for their wallets. Today we will take a look at the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. Other connection ports are the same; you get a 40 pin GPIO connector, camera and touchscreen ports, an HDMI video output, four USB 2.0 ports, stereo/composite video, a microSD card slot and a headphone jack. Where as the B could achieve 35.6Mb/s over 2.4GHz, the B+ increases that to 46.3Mb/s, but is also capable of hitting 102Mb/s using 5GHz. The Raspberry Pi Foundation's made compute platform has become something of a phenomenon and almost 18 million units have been sold since the first Pi was released in 2012.

If you're on the lookout for a new Raspberry Pi, you're in luck. It will sit alongside the Pi 3 and older models, too, rather than replace them - though co-founder Eben Upton has suggested that there's little reason for end users to pick the older Pi 3 over its enhanced successor. And finally, the giant is coming up with the successor model of the PC with Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ model.
