Pirates' Andrew McCutchen To Be Traded To San Francisco Giants

Report: Pirates trade McCutchen to Giants

Pittsburgh Pirates trade Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants

Almost a month after adding Evan Longoria to their lineup, the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a trade Monday with the Pittsburgh Pirates for five-time All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen.

The trade has not been officially announced by either team, and it is unclear what Pittsburgh will receive in exchange for the five-time All-Star. McCutchen would join Buster Posey as former National League Most Valuable Players on the Giants roster.

The 31-year-old has spent all nine major league seasons with Pittsburgh.

Environment Canada is predicting as much as 20 millimetres of rain to fall between now and Friday afternoon. The mild temperatures will abruptly end on Friday with a strong cold front moving across the region.

The price for free agent corner outfielders was likely too high and so was the price for Lorenzo Cain.

It's nearly like the San Francisco Giants wanted to keep their second biggest player acquisition of the off-season a secret. Last season, McCutchen slashed.279/.363/.486, with 28 HR and 88 RBI, which is good for a 122 wRC+. Parker would've been a liability offensively for a team with playoff aspirations such as San Francisco.

Andrew McCutchen was traded to the Giants on Monday, according to The Athletic, with the deal contingent on a review of his medical records. Of course, the Giants need all the help they can get after just enduring a 64-98 season. McCutchen will make $14.5 million in 2018, allowing the Giants to reset their tax penalties. But relief pitcher Kyle Crick reportedly is part of the deal. The Giants are hopeful that the addition of McCutchen will go a long way toward solving their outfield issues. With the additions of Longoria and McCutchen, it's obvious that the Giants are trying to reload for 2018 and compete in a division that sent three teams to the playoffs previous year.
