But Patricia's hiring in Detroit is still speculation at this point, and will remain so until the Patriots' playoff run is concluded.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the current New England Patriots defensive coordinator is "likely" to be named Lions head coach once New England's season has ended, whenever that may be as they have just advanced to the AFC championship.

It's likely Patricia won't be the only Patriots coach to depart once the season comes to an end. He can not officially accept the job until at least next week as the Patriots will face either the Jaguars or the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. With the Colts and Giants pursuing OC Josh McDaniels and LBs coach Brian Flores a finalist for the head job in Arizona, New England's coaching staff could look vastly different in 2018.

But the tanker, called the Sanchi , has now sunk after being adrift and on fire for a week, Chinese media reported. It remains unclear whether there has been a significant oil leak into the sea.

Patricia appears to be the ideal candidate for the Lions in 2018. Defensively, though, there have been a lot of questions in the Motor City for quite some time and Patricia would theoretically address those needs with a high-level analytical mind.

Beyond that, Patricia is well respected for his work with New England's defense and the way he's gone about building relationships inside the Patriots' locker room. Patricia and general manager Dave Gettleman apparently "hit it off" and it seemed as if the Giants was leaning in Patricia's direction. "That is his master and his degree".

Detroit publicly announced six interviews for the head coach position job including - Green Bay associate head coach Winston Moss, and Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. In fact, for three of his four years with the Lions, he led them to winning records. The Lions went 9-7 each of the last two years and made the playoffs twice under Caldwell.
