In a message from the Paragon team, posted on the game's official site over the weekend, Epic admitted they didn't execute well enough to deliver on its promise and there was no clear path to a sustainable number of players.

The studio will provide a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. The party system did seem to work for most players after the fix, but another issue regarding building structures, a core part of Fortnite, was also brought up. Reportedly the Paragon team has shrunk from over 100 developers to just less than a dozen at last count and now the game is set to shutter for good at the end of April.

The entire problem, according to Epic Games, stemmed from an influx of players during the week that Epic Games had not anticipated, but with the game still now in Early Access, such issues and downtimes should be expected from time to time.

"It's with heavy hearts we've made a decision to close down Paragon", reads the official post.

Taking all of this into consideration, there's no telling at this point in time whether or not Fortnite's Battle Royale will eventually receive Sniper Shootout as a permanent fixture in the game's future. Well, Epic Games will be shutting it down on April 26th as it can not grow it into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable. It utilized a third-person perspective a little like Smite, but brought to bear a much more streamlined laning experience, as well as gorgeous Unreal Engine graphics and all of the spit and polish you would expect from a AAA Epic Game. We have failed you - despite the team's incredibly hard work - and we're sorry.

By way of apology, Epic is refunding all money invested in the game by gamers. Players seeking a refund are asked to link an Epic account if playing on console and then request a refund through the company's customer service portal. "As the player population continues to decrease, matchmaking times and quality will further degrade", the post concludes.
