Elton John announces retirement, farewell concert tour includes 2 LA dates

On Wednesday, the 70-year-old music legend announced at a press conference that he's retiring from touring after one final world tour.

After John concludes his tour in 2021 - which gives South Florida audiences a last chance to see him live on November 23 at Sunrise's BB&T Center and November 24 at Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena - the superstar says he wants to spend more time with his two children, Zachary, 7, and Elijah, 5.

That said, the veteran rock and pop star played 87 shows previous year, including one at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park stadium, across Europe, Australia and his Las Vegas show The Million Dollar Piano. He will appear at the Save Mart Center Jan. 15, 2019. Tickets go on sale February 2. He wrote on Instagram that "EltonJohn.com will be fully back online as soon as possible". Presales will be available through American Express beginning 10 a.m. Thursday through January 29.

John's stage production will take his fans on a journey spanning his 50-year career of hits.

John's final Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will start in the US in September and will stretch out to 300 shows which may take several years to complete.

The 70-year-old hitmaker - who has been touring for nearly 50 years - announced his retirement on Wednesday evening ahead of a celebratory concert next week at Madison Square Garden in NY.

This will not be the end, as Sir Elton intends to continue composing and recording.

John made the announcement via a live, tech-infused event in New York, LA and London, with exclusive VR180 live stream supported by YouTube.

It was also announced at today's launch that Gucci will be exclusively designing the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour wardrobe.

Adam Chester is Elton John's rehearsal pianist.
