Sashi Brown releases statement thanking Browns

Report: Browns fire executive VP Sashi Brown

executive vice president

Brown, who joined the organization as an executive VP and general counsel in January 2013, was promoted three years later, after the organization fired general manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine.

In a move unlikely to shock many, the Cleveland Browns fired Sashi Brown, their executive vice president of football operations, on Thursday. That was the only firing Jimmy Haslam administered Thursday, though, as the Browns' owner announced Hue Jackson will remain the team's coach in 2018. John Dorsey (Chiefs), Scot McCloughan (Redskins), Trent Kirchner (Seahawks) and Eliot Wolf (Packers), all former NFL Executives, have been linked to the Browns. But he wants more input than he had the last two years when Brown, with no football experience as a talent evaluator, was given final say on all roster matters.

The football and personnel departments have clashed over roster decisions and the growing tensions - along with the abysmal record - gave Haslam the impetus to make more changes despite promising continuity when the season began.

Freshly deposed Sashi Brown released a statement thanking Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam for the opportunity he had with the franchise. "I've got to think through a lot of things first before I start talking about it".

The Browns then moved out of the No. 12 spot in the 2017 draft, allowing the Houston Texans to select Deshaun Watson.

"I'm just trying to digest everything", said 10-time Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas, who was lost for the season with a triceps injury.

Since returning to Cleveland, the Browns have had eight different general managers - Brown, Ray Farmer, Michael Lombardi, Tom Heckert, George Kokinis, Phil Savage, Butch Davis and Dwight Clark.

The Browns have stockpiled picks for future drafts, with six additional picks in April's draft. "I have always felt like I have had their support", Jackson said.

"At the end as I told you guys, it is about winning and losing so we have to get to that as fast as we can". The team now holds 10 picks for 2018.
