National Football League notebook: Four Patriots selected for Pro Bowl team

Dolphins safety Reshad Jones selected to second Pro Bowl

Packers among five teams without player voted to Pro Bowl

The Pittsburgh Steelers lead the National Football League in most Pro Bowl players with eight, including Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, Ben Roethlisberger, Alejandro Villanueva, David DeCastro, Maurkice Pouncey, Chris Boswell and Ryan Shazier. He has 24 receptions for 220 yards and a touchdown.

Fair or not, safeties are graded on interceptions when it comes to the Pro Bowl. Injured Ryan Shazier, who most definitely deserved to be selected and obviously won't play in the game, was also picked as a reserve. Making the Pro Bowl as a quarterback is extremely hard, given the talent across the league, particularly in the NFC.

Admittedly I'm not sure how Steelers tackle Alejandro Villanueva, Titans tackle Taylor Lewan and Raiders tackle Donald Penn compare stat-wise, but Schwartz was definitely good enough to be an alternate.

In addition to the four players chosen and Smith and Joseph, the Vikings also had touted quarterback Case Keenum, wide receiver Stefon Diggs, tight end Kyle Rudolph, tackle Riley Reiff and linebacker Eric Kendricks as Pro Bowl candidates. However, his regular season is over after suffering a calf injury against the Pats. If you don't win, nothing really matters. Griffen is one of the league's fourth leading sacker with 13.0 on the season.

Juszczyk is San Francisco's first Pro-Bowler since NaVorro Bowman and Joe Staley in 2015. Bell, who has topped the 1,200-yard mark on the ground for the second consecutive season and the third time in his career, needs 169 more yards match his personal best of 1,361 yards set in 2014.

Defensive end Brandon Graham, center Jason Kelce and linebacker Nigel Bradham did not make the team. The defensive end is a team captain and has an impressive 10 sacks on the season thus far.
