Justin Trudeau Is In Trouble Over a Luxury Trip to the Bahamas

Trudeau says he has known the Aga Khan, Prince Shah Karim Al Husseini, since childhood.

It was this December 2016 stay that Trudeau had to apologize for on Wednesday, after Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson found that he had breached multiple federal ethics rules for accepting the trip and using the Aga Khan's private helicopter.

"Perhaps he should consider returning. a significant part, or perhaps all of the $215,000 of taxpayers' money that was spent in enabling his unacceptable holiday, " Kent said in an interview.

Dawson found that besides the post-Christmas trip, Trudeau had also accepted a vacation on the island for himself and his family in December 2014, and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau set up a trip to the island in March 2016 with a friend of hers and their children.

The Aga Khan, a prominent philanthropist, has business ties with the Canadian government and there was "ongoing official business between the Government of Canada and the Aga Khan at the time each invitation was accepted", Dawson found.

"The date will not be July 1, I can assure you of that", Trudeau said.

Trudeau said he accepted her report and would clear future vacations with the watchdog.

And because it's so gradual, progressively shorter battery life is ignored by most people, until it's time for a new iPhone. The company included code in iOS 10.2.1 earlier this year that was a fix for iPhone 6 users experiencing sudden shutdowns .

Dawson concluded the trips could be seen as an attempt to influence Trudeau, particularly when the Aga Khan's foundation was registered to lobby the Office of the Prime Minister.

Dawson's report referred only to a "senior American official of a previous administration" being present on the island.

Trudeau was born and raised in a political environment and, given the media attention that both his father and mother dealt with, he should know full well of the trappings of political life.

A spokesperson for Trudeau has confirmed to CTV News that that senior US official was Kerry.

Mr. Cullen said it sounds like Mr. Trudeau was simply looking forward to an "awesome" vacation at someone else's expense. "Normally, when people take something they shouldn't, and broke the law doing it, they, at a minimum, pay it back".

A spokesperson for the prime minister said Thursday that Trudeau reimbursed the commercial equivalent of his and his family's flights to and from Nassau but would not disclose the precise tab.

Trudeau broke the act by failing to arrange his private affairs to avoid being in conflict of interest, Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson said in a news release.

While the finding could tarnish Trudeau's popularity half-way into his mandate, he does not face any penalties. She found that Mr. Trudeau did not contravene subsection 6 (1), as he did not participate in, or make any decisions relating to, the Aga Khan and his institutions, nor did he contravene section 7, because he did not give them preferential treatment.
