Three other women, who were all in their teens at the time, told the paper that Moore made advances on them as well.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which fundraises for Senate candidates, is no longer listed as one of the beneficiaries of a joint fundraising committee benefitting Moore, per paperwork filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission.

Moore has denied the allegations against him, and his campaign on Thursday said the Post's report, which cited 30 sources, was "garbage", and "the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation".

Several senior Republicans called on Moore to quit the race after The Washington Post reported allegations of sexual misconduct.

Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado is chairman of the NRSC, the campaign arm of the Senate GOP.

The Maryland Democratic Party challenged the state's only Republican in Congress on Friday to denounce Alabama GOP senate nominee Roy Moore. But other Republican Senators, including John McCain and Jeff Flake, have struck a tone closer to that of Romney. As senators headed in for an afternoon vote on a Transportation Department nominee, reporters swarmed Republicans in a bid to get their reaction. The Senate seat is now held by Sen.

The poll does show Moore losing support disproportionately among self-identified Evangelicals (a majority of Alabama voters), leading Jones in that demographic 58-37; he led by 68-28 in September. "They became parents of Jesus", Ziegler was quoted as saying by the Washington Examiner.

Kinzinger went a step further, sharing that he thinks the Senate should take swift action to remove Moore, he wins the Senate seat. Luther Strange, who was appointed to the position by former Gov. Robert Bentley.

Moore, a 70-year-old former state Supreme Court justice, flatly denied allegations of decades-old sexual advances on girls, published Thursday in a Washington Post story.

In interviews since the publication of the story, state officials have said either that they would investigate the claims or raised questions about the timing of the revelations, suggesting the accusers were politically motivated.

The accusations were made in a report in The Washington Post on Thursday.

Theologians and pastors, among others, expressed revulsion that Mary and Joseph would be used to counter allegations of sexual misbehavior with a minor.

The Bible does not state the ages of Joseph and Mary, agrees Margaret M. Mitchell, a professor of early Christian literature and the New Testament at the University of Chicago Divinity School. Other lawmakers have called on Moore to leave the race.

Moore, at the time an assistant district attorney, asked for the girl's phone number and days later took her to his house, where they engaged in sexual activity before she asked to be taken home, Ms. Corfman said.

"If it's true, the Republican Party doesn't have any place for pedophiles and he should step down immediately", said Josh Holmes, a McConnell confidant and his former chief of staff. "Steve Bannon is responsible", he added about the McConnell foil and former White House chief strategist, for enabling candidates such as Moore who are out of the GOP mainstream.
