Jay Ajayi traded from Dolphins to Eagles, giving Philadelphia RB depth

The Miami Dolphins reportedly traded running back Jay Ajayi to the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday for a fourth-round draft pick, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

The 24-year-old Ajayi has rushed for 465 yards this season on 138 carries, but has been held out of the end zone.

The response to the Eagles' trade was quick and showed that experts believe that Ajayi will be a huge addition in Philadelphia.

"We gotta stop trying to hit the home runs all the time", said Gase. The Eagles will likely lean on the duo of Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount, which on the surface seems to give them a nice one-two punch with players that have complementary games. "That's on the running back".

The Eagles, who have won an NFL-best six in a row, gave up a fourth-round selection in next spring's draft for Ajayi, who made the Pro Bowl past year by rushing for 1,272 yards, fourth-best in the league. He has seen his rushing average drop from 4.9 yards per game in 2016 to 3.4 this season.

Ajayi now joins an Eagles teams that ranks third in the NFL in total yards (371.8), fourth in scoring (29.0), and currently owns the best record in the league at 7-1.

He is signed through 2018 on a four-year, $2.5 million contract.
