Nissan also announced, they will offer a higher power, longer range version at a higher price in model year 2019.

Nissan's engineers focused heavily on improving electric range, with the standard Leaf now able to travel a claimed 235 miles on a single charge.

Also featured on the Leaf is ProPilot Park, a fully autonomous parking system.

The second, ProPILOT Park, will change the way people think about parking.

Hiroto Saikawa, president and chief executive officer of Nissan Motor Co., explains the features of the new Leaf at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba's Mihama Ward on September 6.

The next-generation Nissan Leaf will go on sale in Japan next month, but will not arrive stateside until early-2018.

"If it's successful, the Leaf will be a major part of the portfolio of Nissan", said, Chief Executive Hiroto Saikawa.

Among the new features on the redesigned vehicle are Nissan's ProPilot, a semi-autonomous driving and parking system that's similar to Tesla's AutoPilot. "It's the awareness that comes with more entrants into the market".

The fact that management was aware of what they planned on doing, that's as offensive as it can get", he added. Our American flag is an important symbol to our great country and we, as officers, will continue to salute it.

But if the increased range is the new LEAF's headline act, it's got a very strong supporting bill with lots of new technology.

The automaker claims the new LEAF is the world's most advanced mass-market electric vehicle, with its 378km driving range nearly 50 per cent further than that of its predecessor, which was first launched back in 2010 and is now the UK's highest selling EV.

Tallying some of the mentioned cars, Model 3 can run up to 220 miles on a single charge, while the Chevrolet's Bolt can run you a good 238 miles.

When it goes on sale in spring of 2018, it will have a starting price of $35,998 and be available at all 97 Nissan dealerships across Canada. Its starting price in the USA will be under $30,000, which is even cheaper than the current Leaf. The Yokohama, Japan-based automaker sold 49,000 Leafs in 2016, about 2,000 units fewer than Tesla's Model S, data compiled by Bloomberg New Energy Finance show.

The Leaf also features Nissan's e-Pedal tech, which lets you accelerate, decelerate, and stop the auto by using just the accelerator pedal. This enables the vehicle to come to a complete stop without the driver having to worry about switching between the gas and brake pedals.
