New Apple TV With 4K Streaming Announced

The new Apple TV 4K will be a much more powerful streaming box than its predecessor

Steve T-S on Twitter: "AppleTV6,2, or 'Apple TV 4K' as it's officially called, has a three-core A10 Fusion CPU and 3GB

The new Apple TV is run by the A10X Fusion chip, features 3GB of RAM, and will be able to handle 4K content at up to 60 frames per second. We also expect Apple to announce a new format in their Movies and TV Shows store that sells Digital UHD with HDR (whether or not the Digital UHD format will follow Vudu's use of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in Digital UHD files is up for grabs).

With the new Apple TV, when you buy any HD content from iTunes, Apple will upgrade it to 4K for you without any additional cost.

The Apple TV 4K is priced at US$179 for 32GB storage, and the 64GB model is $199.

tvOS is the version of iOS that works on the Apple TV.

Cue used the example of a basketball game to illustrate ways that Apple TV can prompt users to watch their favorite team's game that's about to start, or even prompt the user to "tune in" to a game that's particularly close. Pre-orders begin on September 15 and shipments start on September 22. The larger story here is support for HDR, which I can attest makes a big difference, providing far more vibrant colors than traditional color on TV screens. Live sports and news will also be a major part of the Apple TV, as major games and events are showcased on its homepage.

Importantly, the company has also redesigned the new Apple TV's user interface to support 4K resolution.

Long anticipated, 4K HDR streaming video is coming to the Apple TV.

The Apple TV is finally getting an upgrade since 2015.

What this means is that every TV should have the most up-to-date version of every streaming app installed as standard, as well as support for the Apple TVs more advanced functionality like AirPlay and Siri control. The existing fourth-generation Apple TV will continue to be available for $US149. Apple's spokesperson also said that 4K content will be available from third parties, including Amazon. Apple TV also enables viewing photos and videos via iPhone or iPad in 4K resolution.

This reveal clearly shows references to Apple TV but with mention of 4K UHD support.
